Zagreb

We started our day with a bit of frustration.  When we arrived for breakfast at 7:00 the restaurant was PACKED, mainly with Asian tourists!  I have to say that we were all happy to get on the bus and put the noise behind us. Tamara helped us to release the stress by serving us samples of Croatian brandy!  Apparently the Croats have a shot of brandy in the morning to kick off their day! 🤷‍♀️The good news is that Margaret seems to be coping well with her shoulder in a sling!

We left at 8:00 and arrived in Zagreb at 10:30 am. Zagreb has 1 million people and it is the Capital city of Croatia. It is a Medieval city built on two hills with an

Austrian-Hungarian influence.  The architecture is stunning. It has 7 beautiful green squares in the green horseshoe of Zagreb. The

architecture is Central European but the lifestyle is Mediterranean.

Our local guide, Kaja, hopped on the bus and we did a  15 minute bus tour through the lower town. Since we couldn’t take the bus into the town Centre we took the tram up to the Upper town. We walked around the upper town and then took the funicular up to the Gallery of Naive Art.

From the gallery we walked up to see the parliament and government buildings and St Mark’s Church.

We walked back down to the main square and said goodbye to our local guide. We then had 1.5 hours for lunch.

We regrouped at 3:00 pm to take the tram to the hotel. When we arrived outside the hotel they had security everywhere and our bus driver had to park the bus around the corner from the hotel. There was some kind of delegation staying at the Sheraton Hotel where we were staying, it looked like military dignitaries.

We had the rest of the day free so everyone did their own thing for dinner and the remainder of the day.
