Split
We were happy to have a bit of a sleep in as we only left at 9:00 for our Split city tour. Our first stop was at the Ivan Mestrovic Gallery. The Gallery is located beside the sea and it offers stunning views. Mestrovic was Croatia’s most modern and prominent sculptor. His works rivalled those of Michaelangelo. Our guide, Matteo, was very good at explaining the meaning behind each sculpture. From the Gallery we went to the Old Town. We toured Diocletian’s Palace that dates back to the 3rd century. Inside the palace there was an art display by Neno Mikluvic, which made the tour even more interesting. Then we walked through the old town to see the various monuments influenced by Gothic and Renaissance periods as well as Venice and Egypt. We finished our guided tour at noon and we had two hours of free time to have lunch, shop and explore. We ended our tour at the Riva, which is the waterfront area in the Split Harbor.
