Mostar

We bade farewell to Dubrovnik and our beautiful hotel as we hit the road at 8:00 am. We had a stunning drive along the coastline of Croatia, with views of the Adriatic Sea with its many islands.

We arrived at the border to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina at 9:10 and there were only 2 busses ahead of us, not so bad! It still took 30 minutes because they are extremely slow! 🤷‍♀️

We had a coffee stop in Neum, it is the only seaside resort in Bosnia because they only have 20 km of shoreline!

We arrived in Mostar at 11:30 and met our local guide, Jasmina.  It was a challenge to keep our group together as we made our way through the narrow and crowded streets of the old city.  We visited an Ottoman Mosque

and old Ottoman House. We walked over the Old Mostar Bridge, which is another UNESCO World Heritage site.

We finished our tour at 1:15 and had two hours of free time to have lunch and shop.

Many of us tried a sample plate of typical Bosnian food which consisted of chicken, pork, sausages, pita bread, cooked peppers, fries and a delicious red pepper dip. It was delicious!

We left Mostar at 3:30 to drive to Split. We took a little detour in order to drive through Medugorje, the site where it is believed by many that the Virgin Mary appeared to a group of young people in 1981.  This is a sacred site where thousands of people come to visit every year. We were only able to drive through the town and see the hill with the cross as there is a huge admission charged to stop and visit and it wasn’t a part of our itinerary.

We arrived in Split at 6:30, just in time to see the sun setting over the sea. We checked into our beautiful 5 star hotel, ready to have a relaxing evening!
